In the past, I’ve told you about the Megascans library, and how I am using it as a source of models and textures for my projects. This time, I am going to share with you another, similar service. Poly Haven. Poly Haven is a public asset library that provides high-quality assets that you can use in video, images or games.
To use Poly Haven, you don’t need to create an account. You just browse the library and download the models and textures you want. It can’t get any easier than that. When it comes to 3D models, you can choose between a few formats, including Blender and FBX. Being able to download in FBX pretty much solves all your needs, since that format can be read by any 3D application. You can also choose texture quality, going from 1K to 4K or even 8K in some cases.
Assets are organized in categories, so it’s easy to find the model you need. You can also use a search bar to find something specific.
While browsing the catalog, I found a lot of very useful props, specially for smaller things like decorative ornaments, food, and props, that can really help bring the scenes to life. Another thing I like is that it’s curated, meaning the admins actually review submissions to check for quality before adding them to the catalog. This is also a very good thing, because it means you know you are going to find high-quality models, not “quickly-put-together-so-so-models” that might make it difficult to find what you need.
Poly Haven can be a very good source for assets for your projects, and the best of all, it’s free. Poly Haven also has a Patreon, so you can support the website if you can afford it.
