Adobe Max 2021: Incredible New Collaborative Features Are Coming

Oct 26, 2021 at 11:00 pm by nickcharles

The Adobe Max 2021 conference had it's first day today, and there is quite the exitement about new features for Adobe products. The main focus is on collaboration, but there are a plethora of great features available now, or in beta among most of the apps. If you haven't yet checked out Adobe Max, get on over there! In the meantime, the following video is the Keynote and info on the latest features of Adobe products. If you don't have the time for the video, you can check out my list of favorite new features below.

I'll be taking a more in-depth look at a lot of these new features soon, but here are the features I consider outstanding:

Photoshop

  • The Object Selection tool will now be able to make selections with a click as you hover over objects, with selections being much more accurate, even on edges.
  • There is now a way to mask all detectable objects in a photo with a single click. Sweet!!
  • Photoshop’s Neural Filters have added 3 excellent new beta filters: Landscape Mixer (seasonal changes), Color Transfer (Apply the color palette of one image to another), and Harmony (matching two images in a composite).
  • And...you can now copy vector shapes from Illustrator and paste them into Photoshop, preserving layers, groups, and the ability to edit the shapes!

Illustrator

  • The greatest new feature to hit Illustrator is the 3D and Materials interface. This is really, really, really incredible, as you get some impressive results that go well beyond simple extruded looks...and the materials and ray-tracing is phenomenal inside Illustrator.
  • Illustrator for iPad now has a vectorize feature that will convert a drawing to vector...which is awesome for folks with iPads.

Also interesting, and cool, is that Adobe is launching new betas of Photoshop and Illustrator that work directly in a web browser to make collaborating much easier, though it would be limited to simple tools.

Lightroom

  • Lightroom now has more powerful masking tools to make selective adjustments quickly and effectively. Changing color on landscape photos will be much, much easier now. I've really gotten to love Lightroom, and I fully welcome this feature.

Creative Cloud Spaces and Canvas

  • Now, this won't be available to all until early next year, but it is, in my mind, huge. Creative Cloud Spaces is a feature which is a place for collaborative projects, files, etc. Creative Cloud Canvas is a space in which a project can be displayed visually, so all collaborators can actively explore and create together virtually...in real-time. You can even communicate through canvas via video as well.

These are just some of the major new and exciting features available now, or coming soon, and I've only touched on what I explored today. There is more info and demos of these features up at the Adobe Max site. There is still a couple more days of Adobe Max 2021 and there is a ton more to explore. I encourage everyone to head on over there and get in on some sessions.
