3D Buzz is closing, while giving us a final gift

3D Buzz had closed

I am inclined to think that most people involved with higher end 3D graphic applications (such as 3DS Max, Maya, Houdini, etc.) are familiar with the site 3D Buzz. As a matter of fact, 3D Buzz is a community that has been around for quite some time, offering tutorials, paid learning material, downloads, etc.

Unfortunately, 3D Buzz is closing its doors, not without giving people a final gift (more about that below). You may or may not know that Jason Busby, founder of 3D Buzz and one of the principal partners, dying from cancer back in 2017, and that affected 3D Buzz greatly. Besides founding 3D Buzz, Jason was Director of Animation for The Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee, and  was also the author of the books Mastering Unreal Technology Vols I and II.

If you visit 3D Buzz right now (and ignore the warning of the expired security certificate), you will see this following statement:

"3D Buzz, Inc has closed its doors. Subscription and recurring payments have already been suspended. This page is our final gift to such a wonderful community. Below you will find download links to all of our available material, free of charge."

Basically, other than simply closing the website, 3D Buzz decided to make all their learning content available for free. This content includes training for 3DS Max, ZBrush, Blender, Unreal Engine, as well as learning courses about concept art, anatomy drawing and 2D art.

There are a lot of courses to choose from. Unfortunately, some of those are outdated because they were created for older versions of software packages, but, in many cases, they will still be useful since the tools in those software packages are still there (for example, the 3D modeling courses, or more "theory-oriented" courses).

Because this has just happened, and we don't know how long these tutorials are going to be available, the 3D Buzz server is pretty busy, and sometimes you are unable to download the files. Also, for this reason, people on Reddit are taking the time to create torrents of these files, which would make them available for a bit longer.

As I understand, the reason 3D Buzz closed is because the site became unsustainable after Jason's death, since no more content was being added, and the site quickly became outdated. It is a big shame 3D Buzz has closed, but we can certainly thank them for this last gift they have provided to the digital art community.
