The importance of medical visualization cannot be overestimated. The medical illustrator/animator is both artist and scientist - the storyteller of the living world. Their work touches everyone, as they educate physicians, patients, students and many others, and help to advance the sciences. It is indeed a fascinating field that has an incredible impact, and can itself be a very rewarding career.

I've long been fascinated with medical illustration and animation - the beautiful details of an unseen world within our bodies that these artists provide for the benefit of all of us. And 3D programs like Pixologic's ZBrush play an integral part in the advancement of medical visualization.

ZBrush itself is the industry standard digital sculpting application used in so many industries: from feature films to video games, and even artisan jewelers are using it. With tons of functionality and wonderful customizable brushes, you can create incredible 3D models in far less time than typical modeling tools.

The ZBrush community is vast, and the work that artists are doing with ZBrush is incredible. The annual ZBrush community event, the ZBrush Summit is always a huge deal.

At the 2019 ZBrush Summit, Newt Studios' Alexey Kashpersky and Mike Moran gave an excellent presentation on how they use ZBrush in their work. Below is a link to the recording of Alexey and Mike's presentation "Visualizing Biological Wonders - ZBrush Workflows in Scientific Animation."
