Winner of Photography Halloween Contest 2018: Stick Figures

We had a quick chat with the winner of the photography category in this year’s Halloween contest.

Sometimes magical creatures come out to play in the places we love most and we are lucky enough to happen upon them.

StickFigure’s photography entry brings to life a mystical creature made of driftwood. StickFigure tells us a little about the winning entry.

Did you expect to find what you were looking for that day or was it a happy accident?

A series of sculptures appeared pretty much overnight at my favorite beach in Victoria, B.C., Canada, created by local artists. This was the best one among them. The contest entry was taken during the daytime so in order to make it more appropriate toward a Halloween entry, I modified the image in Photoshop.

In your description, you said you played with the image in Photoshop. How much photomanipulation did you do or did you use filters to get the effects?

I turned it into a night scene, cropped it closer, increased the contrast, placed a blue overlay over it, blurred the background with a mask, and gave the sculpture a slight, soft glow.

How long did it take you to complete manipulated image?

It took about an hour to do.

Thank you for all the votes. The prize of some new and nifty software from the sponsors will give me hours of enjoyment to explore new ways to create and manipulate images.
