The latest version of Substance Painter is only a few days old and Allegorithmic has already raised the ante.
Introducing the “Rubber Ducky Challenge,” the first texturing/augmented reality challenge designed for Substance and Snapchat users who want to turn a little bit of AR creativity into some major prizes.
The Rubber Ducky Challenge asks professional artists and hobbyists alike to try their hand at creating new AR Snapchat Lenses using the revamped Substance Painter and Snap’s Lens Studio.
After downloading “Ducky,” the contest’s official model, entrants can start texturing, adding a unique bit of flair before importing their creation into Lens Studio and creating a Lens. Artists then simply submit their entry, creating an automatically generated Snapcode in the process. With this code, anyone can "scan to unlock" the Lens within the Snapchat Camera.
All entries must be submitted through the official Snap landing page before 9 a.m. PST April 9.
“More and more users are relying on Substance Painter for AR projects, and we wanted to challenge them to see how far they could go,” said Dr. Sébastien Deguy, founder and CEO of Allegorithmic. “We are thrilled to partner with Snap for the contest, and we are sure that the results are going to be beyond our wildest expectations!”
The contest is open to users of all levels, who can try both Substance Painter and Lens Studio at no cost. A Substance Painter shelf can also be installed and accessed directly through Lens Studio, making it easy to create award-winning entries.
"Even as AR technology has improved, it has remained unapproachable to most creators. That’s why we built Lens Studio,” said Eitan Pilipski, VP Camera Platform at Snap Inc. “By partnering with Allegorithmic, we're able to provide a more seamless experience for artists moving their creations between Substance Painter and Lens Studio, simplifying and accelerating the development process – and this contest is the perfect way to get them started!”
Two winners will be announced on April 19, one from the United States and one selected from the pool of international contestants. Both winners will receive:
One year of Substance Indie, including access to the latest versions of all Substance software and 30 downloads a month from Substance Source
A Wacom Cintiq 13” Pro Bundle
A Lens Studio t-shirt, spectacles, stickers and various Snap plushies
A copy of Allegorithmic’s new PBR guide, a MAT figurine, stickers, a t-shirt and a tote bag
