Covering Siggraph 2016: Facebook Live-stream and More!

Siggraph 2016 will start this Sunday, July 24, at the Anaheim convention center. I will be attending as the press representative for Renderosity and Renderosity Magazine. This will be my 10th Siggraph and I'm just as excited as I was for the very first Siggraph I attended back in 2006. However, I've gotten a bit smarter about how to schedule myself to maximize time while still having plenty of opportunities to meet people and go off exploring.

You see, although Siggraph is about cutting edge computer graphics, I've learned that it's really about people. I love the classes and presentations that Siggraph offers in abundance, but sometimes a 10 minute conversation with someone you've just met can have an equally strong impact. Because, when you come down to it, ideas and technology can be impressive and useful, but it's really the people who imagined the technology and dreamed up the ideas that can change the way you see the world.

I'll be sharing my people encounters at Siggraph with a daily report at Renderosity Magazine. And I'll be conducting two Facebook-Live sessions; one on Sunday at 2pm (Pacific Time) at the Siggraph Art Gallery, and the second on Wednesday at 2:30pm (Pacific Time) on the Siggraph showroom floor. Both events will last approximately 15-30 minutes and I'll be showing you around the locations and answering your questions. Be sure to check the Renderosity Facebook page for more info.

Siggraph 2016
As the 2016 Siggraph chair has pointed out, the tagline for this year's convention is "Render the Possibilities". Here's what she had to say:

The tagline focuses on the ways in which technology has the potential to push us to the next great thing, how it makes positive contributions to the world we live in, and how it extends our ability to better communicate and express ourselves. My hope is that the 2016 conference serves as a hub in which art, science, and technology connect to envision future technological possibilities and their impacts. -Mona Kasra, Siggraph 2016 chair

I really like what she has to say and it has been a theme of my Siggraph coverage for many years. How does technology come together to affect the real world we live in? This is what I'll be searching out at Siggraph via the large amount of meetings, classes, presentations, screenings, conversations and interactions both inside and outside of the convention center.

I'll be meeting with companies like Maxon (Cinema 4D), Chaos Group, NVIDIA, Hewlett-Packard computers, Allegorithmic, The Foundry, Autodesk and Side Effects just to name a few. I'll be visiting Siggraph's VR Village, Art Gallery and Emerging Technologies exhibit. I'll be attending classes/presentations on Google's recent VR movie, Pearl, along with a class on Story for new technologies, and more.

The conference kicks into a new gear with the opening of the Exhibition Hall on Tuesday. I'll be roaming the booths there to meet people and learn about new technologies and updates on established software/hardware.

Siggraph Live Streaming Links
Siggraph will be live streaming some events at the conference and several computer graphics companies have published extensive lists of booth presentations that will be live screened as well. The list below of live-screening events at Siggraph is not exhaustive, but if you want to see what's going on a the conference, live-streaming is a great way to do it. will stream a variety of events live via their website here.

StudioXperience - via there will be a series of interviews with major figures in computer graphics at the StudioXperience studio at Siggraph. The schedule of events is here.

Maxon's C4D Live - Maxon always does a great job with their live streaming and the list of presenters is impressive. This is my favorite on this list.

The Foundry booth - The Foundry has a really impressive list of presenters they'll be live-streaming at their Siggraph booth. Here is the list.
