Capturing the real world and imperfections that make people individuals is what inspires Tempesta3d to create her art.
With her hometown in Venice, Italy, inspiration literally walks past Tempesta3d's doorstep.
"I am lucky enough to live in a touristic city full of art and beautiful people of any age and ethnicity visiting it," she said about what inspires her most.
Her inspiration can be found in the textures she creates, some of which were created using high-def photographs of real skin to produce a high level of realism.
"Nothing makes me more happy now than to get mail from the artists who like my creations, and they enjoy the realism and those imperfections that make us what we are: unique, diverse and real! To me this is real beauty," Tempesta3d said.
Tempesta3d took some time out of her schedule to answer a few questions about what makes her art unique.
What did you do before you turned into a professional 3D designer?
Tempesta: I have a degree in teaching but life brought me onto a different path and so my previous job was freelancer for a pharmaceutical company.
As a hobby I followed any art from childhood, including local theater, publishing poems and writing novels, embroidery and video editing so now it is like a dream come true.
What is your favorite thing to design?
Tempesta: My favorite part of this work is to represent the common people. I love the underdogs in real life, those who are shy and pushed a bit apart... Maybe because I am like that myself. Nothing makes me more happy now than to get mail from the artists who like my creations, and they enjoy the realism and those imperfections that make us what we are: unique, diverse and real!
To me this is real beauty.
I also love fantasy and horror. It is fantastic for me to be able to imagine something and reproduce this on my computer and then admire what the artists will create with that.
How long have you been designing and why did you start?
Tempesta: It is now eight years that I am involved in the amazing 3D world professionally. I started several years before, for fun. I loved to create small animations for family and friends. Slowly I got passionate about the character-creation process. I then studied anatomy combined to various programs like the aforementioned Poser and Zbrush and Corel and Daz and many others that would allow me to achieve what I envisioned.
What inspires your creations?
Tempesta: I am lucky enough to live in a touristic city full of art and beautiful people of any age and ethnicity visiting it. When I walk around I love to look at every detail on those faces: wrinkles, freckles, small imperfections... I love real things in life: fresh food, pets and hugs and most of all real people with all their baggage of smiles and tears and authenticity. I like to reproduce those real humans into my work. They maybe are not the ones with perfectly botoxed skin or the cookie cutter smile.
I love to do this work especially for my lil nephew, he is now five years old and his mind is full of dreams and hope. Unfortunately the grown-up world is not so shiny.
Art allows me to use the fantasy to create a better place, I like to encourage him to open his heart and follow his wildest dreams and always remember to keep alive the lil child within, even when he will be a beautiful young man and I will be an old lady with gray hair and wrinkles.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Tempesta: Well, there is always at least one cat on my desk, or on my lap, while I work and some doggies walk by or sleep on my feet. This is the best part of my job, also if it is a great distraction because they surely do anything to look adorable and be pet.
I love science and anything related to the vast and unknown space that surrounds us. To relax my favorite things are to watch documentaries and read about the latest discoveries and I admire the gorgeous pictures of planets and galaxies and the adventures and experiences of the astronauts.
